Back in the Blogging Saddle

I'm baaaack!  As you may or may not have noticed, I haven't been blogging here for a year or so.  Why?  It's a long story that I won't bore you with but I'll get back to this blog to add a post or two every chance I get.

In addition to some new blog entries, you will likely see some more changes to my site.  I've neglected the poor thing shamefully and I owe it some attention.  At this point, the final product is still a vague concept but hopefully w...

Little Red Riding Hood Revisited

Posted by shirleyanderson at 11:52 AM on July 28, 2008 Comments comments (3)

Do you remember the story about Little Red Riding Hood?  In case you've forgotten, I'll refresh your memory.

A little girl in red skips through the forest with a get well care package for her grandma.  En route, she runs into a few scaredy-pigs who've had some run ins with a bully wolf.  After dealing with the swine (a woman's work is never done), Red finally gets to grandma's house, finds ou...

I'm excited because I just finished compiling an article on The Beatles' album cuts.  Not something I would normally do, but it was requested of me by a Hubber by the name of DJ Funktual

It was a bit nerve wracking to have someone with DJ's musical ...

Mourning George Carlin

Posted by shirleyanderson at 03:43 PM on June 23, 2008 Comments comments (2)

We lost a comedic icon yesterday.  George Carlin succumbed to a long history of heart problems at the age of 71.

How is it possible that George was that old and frail?  I grew up listening to his naughty comedy, and I'm not old.  He, along with Cheech and Chong, would keep my friends and I howling throughout our teenage years.  There was something 'anti-establishment' about their reco...

Did you happen to see the Yahoo! home page today?  If not, I recommend you check it out. It's a pretty interesting place to catch up on what's happening.  They have their Featured News section near the top, that's my favourite.  It has great photographs and eye-catching captio...

Collectible Vinyl Records For Sale!

Remember The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Roy Orbison?  Ring any bells?  We would listen to them on the radio, our parent's hi-fi's, or if we were lucky, portable record players that we could snap the lid down on and carry to our rooms or our friend's houses.

Those were great musical times.  Would you like to own a little piece of that music history?

I Know What Nation Has The .af Domain - Ain't I Smart!

Posted by shirleyanderson at 10:17 PM on June 09, 2008 Comments comments (2)

I tuned in to Jeopardy tonight.  I like watching that show occasionally because when I get an answer right (or is that question?), I feel smart.  Not being a natural brainiac, I get lots wrong, but I also learn a few things.  ...

I get asked by a lot of people if I know of places where they can sell their writing.  I?m not sure why some of them ask me of all people, but I?m happy to help if I can.

I'm Not a Poet and I Know It

Posted by shirleyanderson at 09:25 PM on May 29, 2008 Comments comments (0)

One of my favourite poems of all time is Dr. Seuss?s, The Cat In The Hat.  The only other bit of verse I like is Edgar Allen Poe?s, The Raven.  Renown classics the pair of them, and I think they are good examples of both my level of poetry appreciation, and th...
